About the Role

Antero Group is seeking a strategic, technically skilled Transportation Planner to join our Chicago office. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional with a strong background in multimodal transportation planning, including bicycle and pedestrian plans, transit studies, safety-focused corridor plans, and grant strategy.

This role is ideal for a consultant who thrives on delivering innovative, community-informed solutions, managing interdisciplinary teams, and supporting clients throughout all stages of a project, from early planning through preliminary engineering. While based in Chicago, the position may involve work on projects across the nation, including Colorado, Texas, and other locations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead or support bicycle and pedestrian master plans, public transit studies, Vision Zero, Safety Action Plans, and multimodal corridor studies.
  • Provide guidance on transportation facility selection, network design, and infrastructure feasibility based on land use, safety data, and community input.
  • Assist with preliminary engineering phases, including conceptual layouts, cross sections, cost estimates, and coordination with civil engineers.
  • Utilize ArcGIS and related tools for spatial analysis, mapping, and technical visualizations.
  • Develop and support grant applications (e.g., SS4A, RAISE, CMAQ) and funding strategies for clients.
  • Facilitate public engagement through in-person and digital outreach tools, charrettes, stakeholder meetings, and community tours.
  • Prepare clear, concise, and visually compelling reports, presentations, and graphics.
  • Mentor junior planning staff and collaborate with engineers, urban designers, and external partners.
  • Support business development efforts, including proposal writing, interviews, and partnership strategy.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Urban Planning, Transportation Planning, Geography, or a closely related field.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in consulting or public agency roles.
  • Proven experience in active transportation planning, transit planning, corridor studies, or safety-focused work.
  • Strong understanding of transportation funding programs and grant development.
  • Familiarity with or experience contributing to preliminary engineering deliverables is a plus.

Required Skills:

  • Intermediate or advanced proficiency in ArcGIS, with experience in network analysis, mapping, and geospatial storytelling.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience presenting to public officials and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Cloud; familiarity with SketchUp, Remix, or other planning tools is a bonus.
